THE AUXILIARY
of the
NATIONAL RURAL LETTER CARRIERS' ASSOCIATION
The Purpose of this Auxiliary shall be to unite
fraternally its members, to help create a
greater interest in rural mail service and association
work and to cooperate with the
National Rural Letter Carriers' Association to seek beneficial legislation.
GUIDELINES FOR THE ALABAMA RURAL LETTER CARRIERS “FAMILY”’ SCHOLARSHIP
1. Must be high school senior or a student already pursing higher education.
2. Applicant will personally complete a brief application form, which includes the applicant’s name and address, date of birth, name and address of their ALRLCA sponsor (Parent or Grandparent), and the name and address of the college, university, vocational or technical school the applicant attends or plans to attend. List an award and/or recognition they have received, and any extra curricular school, church, and community activities.
3. Parent or Grandparent sponsoring applicant must be a member of the Alabama Rural Letter Carriers Association.
4. Must state if they have been accepted by the school they plan to attend, or the name of the school they are presently attending.
5. Must state their course of study and planned profession.
6. Must submit the following with application.
a. Transcript of grades for the last quarter or semester before the application deadline
b. Letter of recommendation from teacher or instructor (dated and signed)
c. Letter of recommendation from a minister or other community person not affiliated with the rural craft (example: employer or past employer, long time family friend, etc. (dated and signed)
d. Letter from applicant (dated and signed) stating their reason for continuing their higher education, goals in life, reasons for their course of study, any personal need for and why they should be awarded the scholarship.
e. Letter from parent or grandparent (dated and signed) stating the need for and why the applicant should be awarded the scholarship.
7. The selection committee shall consist of two (2) members of the State Board of the ALRLCA and two (2) members of the State Board of the ALRLCA Auxiliary. These members shall be selected by the respective boards and serve for two years.
8. Selection shall be made on a point system. Points range from 1 to 5 for the following categories:
a. Neatness and completion of application
b. Course of study
c. Grades
d. Extra Curricular school activities
e. Community and church activities
f. Recommendation of teacher or instructor
g. Recommendation of minister or another outside person
h. Recommendation of parent or grandparent
i. Applicant’s letter
j. Any school awards or recognition
k. Any Community or church awards or recognition
9. Applicant may only receive the Alabama Rural Letter Carrier “Family” Scholarship one time
10. If the student leaves school, without completing the school year, the money must be returned to the “Family Scholarship Fund”. The selection committee will review such cases and they will make the decision concerning the return of the money. In the case of sickness or death, the family will not be required to return the funds.
11. The decision as to the winners and the amounts of the scholarships by the committee will be final, with the winners being announced and notified at the State Convention. Checks will be issued to the winners upon certification from the school and received by the ALRLCA Auxiliary State Secretary
12. Application must be received by the ALRLCA Auxiliary State Secretary no later than June 1, 2026.
